Stunning antique Meissen style Dresden, Germany porcelain Affenkapelle Ware Monkey Orchestra Flute Player figurine, c. Features beautifully hand-painted clothing with gilt details and realistic features, stamped in underglaze with the blue scissor mark. Measures 5 3/4" high x 3" long x 2 1/4 wide and is in overall Excellent antique condition free of nicks or fleabites with only minor gilt loss to the cuffs and buttons. Affenkapelle ware, (German: "Monkey Orchestra"), a series of figures created by the Meissen porcelain factory in Saxony (now in Germany), believed to be a parody of the Dresden Court Orchestra, the set was modeled by the German sculptors Johann Joachim Kändler and Peter Reinicke after fanciful singerie (monkeys in human costume).
