Antique Vintage Dresden Pair Figural Owl Lamps Hand Painted Sitzendorfer Germany
This is a delightful pair of antique and vintage figural owl lamps from Germany, examples of Dresden style porcelain. Distinguished by the use of flowers, shells, fruits, leaves and scroll work. Each owl is perched at the base of the tree trunk that acts as the body of the lamp. They are both in working condition (but rewiring is strongly suggested on all vintage lamps). The older of the two lamps has the S under crown - the mark of Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur, first used in 1918.
This lamp has Germany incised in the base, along with the mold number 21065, a number 8, and a handpainted number 45 can also be seen. The mark on the other is a 5 prong crown over an N, possibly Sandizell, founded in 1951 by Herr Höfner in Dresden, Saxony, Germany.This company apparently closed in 2008. My guess is that this is a remake of the older Sitzendorfer lamp.
It has the same mold number impressed into the base, and also has the number 45 handpainted near the mark. The lamps appear to be identical, other than the Sitzendorfer lamp is about ½ shorter. There is an extra bit of height just under the socket on the other. The lamps stand 10" and 10.5", and are in great shape, considerable soiling and wear on the bases as expected for age and use.No damage to the porcelain. The plug ends of the cords have issues - see photos. I acquired these with the two burlap shades shown in the pictures. They are in slightly shabby shape. Interested in one, not both?
